This is a small friendly branch which meets on the third
Monday
of every month at the Dairies Club, Water Street, Carmarthen.
The branch was reformed in 1988 and the Branch President
is Lieutenant Commander John Lewes RN (Ret’d). This is a recent
addition and we all wish our new President well, and look
forward to seeing him at our meetings. Reverend Chancellor Patrick Thomas,
who is the Vicar of Christchurch has accepted our
invitation to become the Branch Padre and we welcome him and
hope to see him as often as his duties allow.
T he Chairman is s/m Derek Morgans,
a tireless worker on behalf of ex-servicemen with regard to pensions, and is
always available to anyone who has a query on this subject.
The Branch Secretary is Donald
Griffiths, who also doubles as Treasurer and is
dedicated to keeping the affairs of the branch, including finances, in a very
ship-shape order. The meetings always generate a lot of interesting items in
which every member plays an active part, and suggestions for the benefit of the
branch are always welcome.
The venue for the meetings is a small club (the Dairies
Club, Carmarthen) and members of
other Branches of the Royal Naval Association , are classed as
Associate members of our club, and can always be assured of a
very friendly welcome and an open invitation to join in the various activities.
Bingo and Entertainment evenings have proved to be a very
welcome addition to the branch’s
activities, always well supported, and we are
encouraged by the club committee to hold these events, but we do not stage them
too often in case they lose their following.
We are always looking for new members so if you would like to recapture those
service days, with the friendship and company of other shipmates, why not come
along on the third Monday of every month and see what we have
to offer.
I am sure that all members will join with me in congratulating our
Chairman s/m Derek Morgans who won the Welsh
Bugler of the Year competition 2003 and for
consecutive years since then This is a very
worthy feat and reflects quite strongly on his prowess as a bugler. Well done
Mr Chairman, the branch is very proud of you.
